This season, the New York Yankees will be contending for their 28th world series title. During the offseason, the Yankees acquired 2017 National League MVP Giancarlo Stanton. Along with sluggers Aaron Judge, the 2017 American League rookie of the year, and Gary Sanchez, the trio is expected to hit well over 100 home runs combined. The pitching staff is anchored by young ace Luis Severino and veteran Masahiro Tanaka, along with closer Aroldis Chapman. The Yankees will also be led by a new manager, Aaron Boone after 2017 manager Joe Girardi's contract was not renewed. Boone is a former Yankee who is most famous for hitting a walk-off homerun against the Boston Red Sox in the 2003 American League Championship Series to send the Yankees to the World Series.

The Yankees open their season with a series against the Toronto Blue Jays in Toronto on March 28th. The Yankees will look to win back the American League East title, which was won by the Boston Red Sox, the Yankees' biggest rival, last year. The Yankees will also have to get past the other top teams in the American League in order to get to the World Series. This includes the Red Sox, the Cleveland Indians, and the defending World Series champions, the Houston Astros.
